Yas Links to Host Pre-qualifying Tournament for 2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Presented by EGA

Up to three qualifying spots up for grabs in 54 hole format, including one for top Emirati

Details of the pre-qualifying tournament for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA were announced today. The pre-qualifying tournament will be held at the challenging Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi on Sunday 6th January and Monday 7th January 2019.

The pre-qualifying tournament will be open to professional golfers and any amateurs with a handicap of scratch or better, with the field limited to 72 players. 40 places are being reserved for professionals or amateurs resident in the UAE, a further 12 places will be available exclusively for Emirati golfers registered with the Emirati Golf Federation, and the remaining 20 places will be filled by international PGA professionals.

The format of the pre-qualifying tournament will be two 18-hole rounds on Sunday 6th January, with shotgun starts at 7.20am and 12.45pm. The top 30 players on the first day will make the cut for a single 18-hole round on the following day. The player completing the 54 holes in the lowest number of strokes, the leading Emirati amateur and leading UAE-based player (professional or amateur) will then qualify for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.

Applications must be submitted on or before Friday 21st December 2018. Successful applicants will be notified no later than Sunday 30th December 2018, when the draw will be announced.

The fourteenth edition of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA will welcome not only 132 players including defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, but will also enjoy the elevated status of becoming a Rolex Series event, boasting increased prize money of US$7 million. Former World No.1 Dustin Johnson and current PGA Player Of the Year Brooks Koepka have also confirmed their participation. Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Championship will be played 16th – 19th January 2019 at the National Course of the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
